“I think it was a combination that we made some selection errors and also made some mistake (pitches),”
catcher Jason Varitek said. “It was a combination of both.” The Angels struck first in the second inning, when
Vladimir Guerrero cracked a leadoff double to right field and scored on Juan Rivera’s sacrifice fly.

Manny Ramirez’ two-run single in the fourth provided Matsuzaka with a 2-1 lead, but everything completely
changed upon the arrival of the sixth. Matsuzaka issued a leadoff walk to Chone Figgins
before Kotchman crushed a 90-mph fastball into the home bullpen to push the Angels ahead, 3-2. Maicer Izturis
followed with a lined double to the right field corner, and Guerrero moved him to third with a base hit past
diving first baseman Kevin Youkilis [stats]. Matsuzaka then left a 2-1 slider over the heart of
the plate to Hunter, who sent the ball onto the roof of a Lansdowne Street parking garage for a three-run homer.

BOSTON –

It's almost mind boggling how a pitcher can be in the Top 10 in both wins and walks. In the American League,
only Red Sox right-hander Daisuke Matsuzaka has managed to walk -- for lack of a better word –
that high-wire act this season.

波士頓訊—

一個投手可以同時排上勝投榜與保送榜的前十名是很令人驚奇的，
在美聯，就屬紅襪的松阪這樣了。他處理保送的方式，是相當冒險的。

"I do think it was a waste to walk him there," said Matsuzaka, now 11-2 with a 3.04 ERA.

"I wasn't too concerned about the stolen base because, even with him in scoring position,

The Red Sox were 7-5 losers to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim last night at Fenway Park, 
and Sox pitcher of record, right-hander Daisuke Matsuzaka, was lit up to the tune of six 
runs in five-plus innings. He allowed just one run through five innings, and then was chased 
in a six-run Los Angeles sixth that included home runs by Casey Kotchman and Torii Hunter.

昨晚紅襪以兩分之差敗給來訪的天使。先發投手松炎上，五局掉了六分。前五局他只丟
一分，然而到了六局下瞬間被打爆。

For those of you who like statistical comparisons with players from the past, the Dice Man - 
who came into the game with an 11-1 record - was hoping to become just the sixth player 
in Sox history to win at least 12 of their first 13 decisions in a season. 
The others were Roger Clemens, Cy Young, Dick Radatz, Bob 
Stanley and the old knuckleballer himself, Tim Wakefield.

But when you consider that last night's game was being looked upon as a possible 
playoff showdown, it had to be sobering for Sox fans to watch the Angels, 
after struggling for five innings, suddenly tee off.

Matsuzaka opened the fateful sixth inning by getting ahead 0-2 on Chone Figgins 
and then inexplicably walking the Angel third baseman. Sox manager Terry Francona 
made it a point to bring up the walk to Figgins in his after-game remarks, saying, 
「I have to believe the inning is different if we don't lose Figgins. . . . That didn't help the inning.」

松六局下一開始對Figgins取得兩好球領先，最後竟然意外地保送他。粉科男指出這個
結果非常的關鍵，『如果那時候沒有保送Figgins，我相信一切會有所不同。』

Matsuzaka, asked about the walk, called it 「. . . a waste to walk him there.
 . . After I walked him, I wanted to start fresh, 
but I just think I had too straight-forward an approach from there.」

And from there, 「things happened in a hurry,」 Francona said.

Catcher Jason Varitek, too, wanted to point to what might have been rather than what

I take as much blame . . . it wasn't like he completely lost it. He was much better than what his end result was today.」

Varitek則是點出應該會發生什麼的而不是實際上發生的事（我翻得有點饒舌），甚至他

Funny how Matsuzaka has been so far removed from the radar screen this season. 
There has been tons of talk about Big Papi's hand, Varitek's slump, Julio Lugo’s fielding 
and the emergence of the Dustin Pedroia,  Jon Lester,  Jacoby Ellsbury and Jed Lowries.

有趣的是至今沒有太多人注意他，大家反而都在討論老爹的手、Varitek的打擊、Lugo的
守備以及Pedroia、Lester、Ellsbury和Lowries。

Yet there have been very few Daisuke debates.
然而對松的討論卻非常少。

Part of the reason is that most people don't know what to make of the season he is having. 
Even with last night's loss, Matsuzaka is still the owner of an
11-2 record. And let's be honest - there isn't a pitcher in baseball right now who 
wouldn't want to see 11-2 next to his name on the stat sheet.

部份的原因是大多數人不清楚這個球季松到底做了什麼，就算加上昨晚的敗投，這也只
不過是他第二場敗戰而已。老實說，沒有任何一個投手不希望看到在他的名字後面掛著11
勝2敗的成績。

And even with last night's numbers rolled into the equation, his ERA is 3.04.
甚至昨晚的爆炸也只不過讓他的防禦率升到3.04而已。

In his prior outing, last Tuesday at Seattle, the Dice Man gave up two runs in 7 innings 
in pitching the Sox to a 4-2 victory. Before to that, he had consecutive outings, covering 
13 innings, in which he didn't allow a run.

在這之前，對水手的那場比賽他主投七局了丟掉兩分，帶領紅襪取得勝利，而再更之前，
他已經連續13局沒有失分。（應該是20局吧？）

Yet on this team, even with that record, can we all agree that Daisuke Matsuzaka is a No. 3 pitcher? 
It's not a putdown so much as a realization that Josh Beckett remains the staff ace 
and that lefty Jon Lester has emerged as a solid No. 2.

不過就算有這樣的成績，我們是不是可以同意松還只是個三號投手？尤其當你想到
Beckett還是Ace，而Lester已經慢慢開始站穩二號。

For now, that makes the Dice Man the richest and best No. 3 starting pitcher in the game.

因為如此，這讓松成為最強的三號投手。
