今天狀況很好，slider與fastball都好犀利，落球點極佳，重要的是省球模式大大啟動，
前4局用50球，當時大家真的認為今天會完封or完投！
恭喜維尼順利拿到第11勝!!!!
這場比賽，前七局只用了90球，也僅被二安，第八局被連3安，一切都掛在第八局的鈴木一朗啊。

不想投四壞的松阪（因為今天已經對賢拜一朗投了2BB），欲投紅中球直接對決時，
卻投得太下方（失投），理論上結果應該ok的  沒想到一朗竟順勢一撈，撈成安打了，
就這樣，一人出局，連三安失2分，維尼就下場了

雖然沒有完投，沒有零失分，也敗給了一朗，但是今天的進步就是省球。
許多一球死、兩球死，比以往省很多，大進步。
希望維尼記得這樣的方式，讓此模式繼續保持啟動狀態囉

Daisuke Matsuzaka latest to extend efforts of Sox starters

松阪，延續了最近紅襪先發的威猛表現

SEATTLE - The Red Sox still are having some difficulties in the eighth inning, but look at the bright side: Since the start of the second half, manager Terry Francona really hasn’t had to worry about the first seven.

下半季紅襪的先發表現，讓粉柯南完全不必擔心前面七局。

Following the lead set by Josh Beckett, Tim Wakefield and Jon Lester, right-hander Daisuke Matsuzaka took the Sox into the eighth inning of last night’s 4-2 win over the Seattle Mariners at Safeco Field.
The M’s ended Matsuzaka’s shutout bid and streak of 24 1/3 scoreless innings with a pair of runs before reliever Hideki Okajima extinguished the threat.

排在北極、老蝴蝶以及列斯特後面的右投松阪，率領著紅襪進入第八局，
最後在西雅圖水手球場中，以4比2贏球。

Since Clay Buchholz failed to endure the fifth inning of Friday’s second-half opener against the Los Angeles Angels, Sox starters Beckett, Wakefield, Lester and Matsuzaka have posted an aggregate 3.03 ERA while averaging more than 7 1/3 innings per start. Of the 10 runs allowed by the pitchers, only two have come before the seventh.

 “When your starting pitching goes that deep, it certainly helps.
We’re going to the bullpen in the eighth inning and not the sixth,”
Francona said. “We’ve actually pitched pretty well (since the break).
If our starting pitching goes deep like that, we should be OK.”

粉柯南說：「當投手能吃久一點局數，確實對球隊有所幫助。
因為如此我們的牛棚就可以第八局才上，而不是第六局。」

In the cases of Lester and Matsuzaka, especially, the Sox gave the pitchers extended rest at the All-Star break. Matsuzaka had not pitched since July 13. With the effort by Matsuzaka, Sox starters leaped ahead of the Angels’ starters and now possess the second-best ERA in the American league (3.73). Beckett, Lester, Matsuzaka and Wakefield all have ERAs under 4.00.

特別是列斯特跟松阪，紅襪球團讓這兩位投手在明星賽之後休息較久。
松阪從7/13之後到今天7/22之間都沒有投球。
靠著松阪的努力，紅襪先發陣容的防禦率為3.73，超越了天使的先發防禦率，

In their four starts on this current road trip, Beckett, Wakefield, Lester and Matsuzaka have issued only four walks in 29 2/3 innings, a sterling average of just 1.21 walks per nine innings. To put that number into perspective, the Sox overall have averaged 3.88 walks per nine innings this season.

Regardless, Francona is hardly willing to turn away any advantage at a time when the Sox offense is sill laboring to score runs and his bullpen situation remains somewhat unsettled.“They’re an aggressive team,” Francona said of the Mariners.
For now, at least, that has only helped Sox pitchers get deeper into games.

SEATTLE -- This time, Daisuke Matsuzaka's pitching style was both sharp and effective, instead of just the latter.

If Matsuzaka was trying to win some sort of contest for artistry, he'd fall well
short considering many of the laborious outings he's turned in this year.
But what Matsuzaka and the Red Sox are both trying to do is win baseball games, and the goal was reached once again on Tuesday night.

After allowing two runs and three hits while recording one out in the eighth,
Matsuzaka, who threw 99 pitches, was replaced in favor of Hideki Okajima.

The lefty setup man turned in a clutch performance that was reminiscent of 2007,

"The game had gotten to a point where if he doesn't get people out, we're

Another reason was Jonathan Papelbon, who pitched a perfect ninth to pin down save No. 30.
In fact, Papelbon has reached that milestone in each of his three seasons,
making him the only Red Sox player to save 30 games three times.

that the right-hander is 11-1 with a 2.63 ERA. In this one, the righty allowed
five hits and two runs over 7 1/3 innings, walking three and striking out six.

"He's given up so few hits," Francona said. "Again, he's made it harder

Jacoby Ellsbury started the rally with a bunt single and Dustin Pedroia
ripped a double down the line in left. For Pedroia, that marked his 23rd consecutive

such streak by a second baseman since 1956.

It was enough because Matsuzaka was typically stingy.

"I thought he threw his fastball aggressively. I thought he threw some good sliders,"
Francona said. "I thought, for the most part, he worked ahead in the count.
And they're a very aggressive team. He didn't let them back in a lot of counts."

Pitching on eight days' rest, Matsuzaka was every bit as impressive as Jon Lester
was on 12 days' rest in the previous game.

"There was a lot of time between these two starts but I felt I was able to
approach this game as I normally do," Matsuzaka said.

"Of course I wanted to stay out there on the mound but given that situation,

Then there was Okajima, who could be primed for a strong finish.
The key to his recent success? More reliance on the curve.

"It's been my winning pitch lately," Okajima said in a statement to interpreter
Jeff Yamaguchi. "Everybody has been sitting on my split.

It is also no secret how vital Okajima's resurgence could be to the Red Sox.
