BOSTON -- It's rare for an 8-1 pitcher to have this many questions surrounding him as he makes a start in late June.

But that's exactly what will be asked when Daisuke Matsuzaka takes the hill for the Red Sox on
Friday to begin a three-game set with the Astros at Minute Maid Park.
Matsuzaka's last outing was one of those days when nothing seemed to be going right. He allowed
seven runs in just one-plus inning of work to the Cardinals, leaving the game in the second and ultimately taking the loss in an 8-0 affair.

Matsuzaka has struggled with his control all season, and he already has 41 walks.
But even though he puts a lot of people on base with free passes, until his last start, n
o one was able to hit him. In fact, the league was batting an ice-cold .195 heading into that contest with St. Louis.
松阪在這整個球季一直跟他自己的控球能力掙扎，他已經投出41個保送了，
但是即使如此，他仍使很多人在壘上而無法順利得分，且很少人能從他手中擊出安打，直到上次比賽為止。

Still, with eight wins, Matsuzaka is among the American League leaders in victories,
and his teammates are not worried about his production.

"He just came back from his shoulder and stuff," said reliever Manny Delcarmen,
referring to Matsuzaka's right rotator cuff strain, which landed him on the DL.
"I'm pretty sure he'll be able to go out there and dominate like he did earlier this year, and hopefully, we can go out and get some runs for him."

An interesting note to keep in mind: Matsuzaka will be taking a turn in the batter's box for the
first time this season. But even though he went 0-for-4 in Interleague Play last year,
his offense seemed to catch on in the postseason. He hit a two-run single in Game 3 of
last year's World Series against the Rockies, helping the Red Sox put six runs on the board en route to a 10-5 win.

"We've still got some bumps and bruises, and Dice-K is trying to get back to where he was,"
Delcarmen said. "But to be where we're at right now is pretty good."

BOS: RHP Daisuke Matsuzaka (8-1, 3.46 ERA)
Matsuzaka came off the 15-day disabled list for his last start, against the Cardinals, and he looked nothing like the starter who had mowed down opposing lineups before straining his right rotator cuff on May 27. The Cardinals touched him up for four runs and five hits in the first inning alone. He faced 12 batters, leaving without recording an out in the second and giving up seven earned runs.

HOU: RHP Runelvys Hernandez (0-0, -.-- ERA)
Hernandez takes over Shawn Chacon's spot in the rotation. The 30-year-old is 6-3 with a 3.72 ERA over 15 starts for the Triple-A Round Rock Express this year. He's allowed 35 earned runs over 84 2/3 innings and has allowed 11 home runs. He's issued 23 walks while striking out 63. Opponents are hitting .233 against him. He has made two career starts against the Red Sox, taking no-decisions in both. He has a 4.85 ERA over those two games, having allowed seven earned runs over 13 innings. His last outing vs. Boston came on Aug. 10, 2006.

Sox stuff
With the series win over the Diamondbacks, the Sox have won 11 of 13 home series this season. ... Boston allowed just three hits against Arizona on Wednesday, marking the seventh time this season the team has allowed three hits or fewer in a contest. ... At a combined 86 years and 252 days, Wednesday's starting matchup between Tim Wakefield and Randy Johnson ranks as the oldest in Fenway Park history.
